Tim O’Shea is a Senior Research Associate and PhD Candidate in at the Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech where his research focuses on the application of machine learning to radio signal processing. Tim is a senior member of the IEEE, earned his MS in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 2007, has been a core developer of the GNU Radio project since 2006, and has worked on numerous software radio sensing systems and communications waveforms including 4G, Satcom and others for academia, industry, and the Department of Defense. His current research looks at building highly adaptive emergent waveforms and sensing systems using deep learning and end-to-end system learning of objectives rather than the explicit algorithm construction which has been prevalent in the signal processing world since its inception.
